por vida skateboarding instructor teaching student how to skate

Why pick one sport when you can learn two?

SK8 to Sail

1 course. 2 sports. 2x the fun.
Skateboard on land, wing foil on water — all in one 5-week pass.
New sport, new skill, every 5 weeks. Why choose one when you can ride both?

Por Vida Skateboarding x Singapore Sailing Federation

A first-of-its-kind collaboration brings two of Singapore’s sport communities onto one shared learning journey.
This August, two names that have shaped their respective sports in Singapore are joining forces for something that’s never been done quite like this before: a single course that takes you from the skatepark to the open water — skateboarding & wing foil.

Two Established Names, One Shared Belief
Por Vida Skateboarding has spent over a decade building Singapore’s skateboarding community from the ground up. Founded in June 2013 by Pham Tan, a skateboarder of 21 years, Por Vida grew from a passion project into training riders of every age and skill level from absolute beginners to experienced skaters. What sets Por Vida apart isn’t just the ramps and rails — it’s the coaching philosophy. Many of the coaches come from the tight-knit local skateboarding community, and the team is known for patient, encouraging instruction that keeps kids and adults alike coming back week after week.
Singapore Sailing Federation carries an even longer legacy. Originally founded in 1966 as the Singapore Yachting Association before being renamed in 2000, Singapore Sailing is the national governing body responsible for the sport of sailing in Singapore, working closely with Sport Singapore and the Singapore National Olympic Council. Beyond competitive racing, Singapore Sailing has actively championed the growth of wing foiling in Singapore — hosting national championships and grand prix series that have drawn sailors from across the region — while running structured, beginner-friendly pathways for newcomers to get on the water safely.

Why This Collaboration Makes Sense
Both sports focuses on balance, board control, and reading momentum. The exact instincts a skater builds on concrete are the same instincts that carry over to standing on a hydrofoil board for the first time. A rider who’s spent five weeks learning to shift weight, carve, and recover from instability on a skateboard isn’t starting from zero when they step onto the water. They’re already halfway there.

Why You Should Join: 1 Course. 2 Sports. 2x the Skills.
Most people pick one new hobby a year. This course hands you two, skateboarding and wing foiling and in a single 5-week pass, taught by two of the most established names in their respective fields.
Built for complete beginners.
No experience needed for either sport. The first 5 weeks on skateboard build the balance and confidence that make the next 5 weeks on the wing foil board far less intimidating.
Small group, real attention.
Capped at just 10 participants, so you’re not lost in a crowd, every session gets proper coaching, not just supervision.
One sign-up, two communities.
You’re not just taking lessons. You’re stepping into two of Singapore’s most established sport communities at once.
Course starts August · Wednesday, 4–6pm · Max 10 pax · 5 lessons total

General Course Questions

This course combines two sports in one package. Each of the 5 sessions pairs 1 hour of skateboarding on land with 1 hour of wing foiling on water. You learn two completely different skills in one 5-week pass instead of signing up for two separate courses.

It’s a water sport where you hold an inflatable wing to catch the wind, while riding a board fitted with a hydrofoil (a fin that lifts the board above the water once you’re moving). It’s different from surfing or windsurfing — no waves needed, and you can do it in calm, flat water.

No prior experience needed. This is a beginner-friendly progression — skateboarding skills (balance, stance, control) are taught first and actually help with wing foiling later.

Open to participants aged 7–18 years old.

Age, Safety & Fitness

Yes. Lessons are structured to build skills gradually with safety gear (helmet, pads for skating; safety briefing and calm-water conditions for foiling) and instructor supervision throughout.

[Recommend confirming your actual swim requirement — typically wing foil programs require basic swimming competency and comfort in open water. I’d suggest stating a clear minimum, e.g. “comfortable swimming 50m unassisted,” so there’s no ambiguity.]

Water lessons are weather-dependent. If conditions are unsafe, the session will be rescheduled [confirm your actual policy — make-up class, refund, or credit].

Logistics

[Fill in: e.g. swimwear, towel, sunscreen, water bottle, closed-toe shoes for skating, rash guard if needed.] Skateboards and wing foil equipment are provided.
